Not many people grab that apple and eating breakfast can be one of the most important things you’ll do in the morning. Relevance: As college students on the go every morning, we fail to realize that we’re not getting nutrition to fuel our bodies for the rest of the day. We blame it on not enough time or the latest diet trend – either way, a busy college student seems to hardly have time to eat breakfast. Credibility: My mother is a nurse and a strong advocate on breakfast in the mornings so as a child; she instilled in me the knowledge that a healthy morning meal brings.
Propositional Statement: Not having healthy eating habits remains a problem not only to college students but children and adult everywhere. Since awareness of the benefits and necessities a breakfast can provide, I propose there should be more media marketing for real life students and a lesson in health class devoted to a good start. BODY The main problem of why people don’t eat breakfast comes from the time crunch and rumors. A. Skipping breakfast affects college student’s diets. 1.
Skipping breakfast is a major problem with college kids, leads to not enough intake of vitamins and nutrients (DOCS, 2007) 2. Skipping meal and not getting enough nutrition can lead to serious health issues and a lowered metabolism. (DOCS, 2007) B. Skipping breakfast affects many adults who fell into bad eating habits as college students. Many men and women out there skip on breakfast and run on empty; they fill themselves with coffee or go by the fast food drive though. (DSB 2007) Many people perform poorly at their jobs and have less energy due to the unhealthy eating habits they have.
Transition: The problem of skipping breakfast however does not only lie within time crunches, but also with dieting. The second part of the issue is that most college students looking to lose that weight rely on skipping breakfast as an easy way to diet. A. Young students lack knowledge on the effects of skipping breakfast. 2. People however, mainly young girls, do not realize the effects it can have on your body. 3. Skipping meals can make you gain weight by storing your food. (MM 2007) B. People can get serious medical issues from not taking care of their bodies. . Skipping breakfast for weight can lead to more serious problems such as eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia. Most common in college students. 2. Cause bad performance in school and mentally. Also can break down your energy and cause you to faint or pass out. Transition: However, it seems that these are all things too severe and don’t connect to breakfast. But they do. Eating in the morning sets your pace for all day and as college students, you need all the energy you can get to retain all the crap you’ll learn.
I feel however that as more young people fall into the fitness craze that the simple fact of eating a healthy breakfast is getting more and more overlooked. It’s time that someone said, hey eat something in the morning besides a pop-tart. The solution I propose is to make the importance of eating breakfast and how it contributes to an overall health more relevant. This will in turn teach people and instill it into daily lives affecting others and their own families and hopefully spark up more media interest in college student’s health.
A) Health classes have proven to strike a chord with students on many subjects such as Pregnancy and teen sex health. 1)Health classes prove to work on their students. 2)It would give them more of an advantage when setting out into the college world since in high school they had taken this class. B) More severe health conscious physical Ed classes have led an increase in awareness. Physical education classes have helped start kids on their journey to better fitness 4. It has also sparked a great interest in media to get kids healthier snacks, foods and physical activity. CONCLUSION
Problem Summary: So it’s very obvious that breakfast links us all to a central health system Solution Summary: However, it’s also very obvious that many people don’t understand the effects of not eating breakfast can do to our bodies, souls and minds. Memorable Closing: So let’s think about it. Eat in the morning and be happy or starve or we can eat coffee and sugary snacks that mess with our bodies, starve ourselves and be grouchy, uninterested and irritable? We can take five minutes to eat a breakfast bar with juice and hit the gym later, or deprive ourselves, binge eat later and then gain more weight then intended.
